A Few Information Resources

I've been meaning to do this for a few months now and an email buddy prodded me recently. Here are a list of resources I have found useful in putting together posts or interview questions and so on. You may also find them useful in researching matters relating to politics in the Commonwealth or in your area.

PA Uniform Crime Reports

http://ucr.psp.state.pa.us/UCR/Reporting/Monthly/Summary/MonthlySumOffenseUI.asp?rbSet=4

http://ucr.psp.state.pa.us/UCR/Reporting/Annual/AnnualSumArrestUI.asp

This is useful data to see where the state's crime hot spots are and the crime rate generally, both by annual and monthly data. Interesting stuff.

PA Occupational Outlook Handbook

http://www.paworkstats.state.pa.us/gsipub/index.asp?docid=455

Is there really a nursing shortage in the state? How do legislators' salaries compare to other occupations in Pennsylvania? I didn't check to see if tattoo artists were in here but this would be the place to check for that sort of thing.

PA School Report Card

http://www.paprofiles.org/

The place to go to compare your local schools with others or the state average.

Census information

http://www.census.gov

You can enter a zip code or a congressional district or a county or any number of other geographic markers and come up with some basic demographic data.

Thanks for your help, Jane.

For AAJ readers, I've got a little community project going over at KeystonePolitics.com on revitalizing small towns, so use these resources, come over to KP and help me out. :)
