Republican Primary in 152nd?

Interesting press release on politicsPA today. Former Upper Moreland Township Commissioner Thomas P. Murt has declared his candidacy for the 152nd state house seat. Murt resigned from his township office when he was called up for service in Iraq. Tom has a long record of public service and I've heard a number of good things about him. Read more about him here, here, and here.

Sue Cornell, currently in office, was elected in 2004. She took the office earlier in 2004 after the death of her father, Rep. Roy Cornell. Read more about her here, here, and here.

Does this mean there will be a Republican primary?

Let's hope so.

I believe that Ms. Cornell's "uncontested" rise to office was questionable, as is the "quickie" party endorsement meeting scheduled for tonight.

It seems that a fair Republican primary is exactly what the Republican Party doesn't want.

Why not? Murt or another qualified candidate should be given every opportunity to throw a hat in the ring. Why wouldn't the Republicans want the very best candidate to represent them in the 152nd? In case they haven't noticed, there are many unsatisfied voters out there. They could conceivably lose their seat to a Democrat.
